Ocean America MODU
Global Scanning Solutions was contracted by AME Pty Ltd to develop a series of as-built 3D CAD models of the Ocean America to assist in refurbishment design, interface equipment fabrication and equipment location planning. In order to achieve the project requirements it was proposed that the Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU) be laser scanned and surveyed using a combination of Leica NOVA MS50 1” multi-station and Faro Focus 3D laser scanners, whilst it was alongside in Singapore.
The primary objective of the project was to develop a general 3D CAD model with the ability and functionality for equipment positioning and clash detection and the ability to rotate/translate deck and gantry cranes with the ability to extract 2D plans and elevations.
Key deliverables included;
- 3D CAD as-built model
- POV Panoramic Point Cloud Viewer (TruView)
- Registered point cloud data
- Plan and section general arrangement drawings
A team of 6 surveyors were mobilised to this project, with the first team focusing on the dimensional control survey and two other teams focusing on the 3D laser scanning. Our 3D modelling team were tasked with developing a 3D as-built model and offset general arrangements.
